Discover path: Natura 2000


Starting point : reception Ellergronn


4-5 hours – 12 km


The path Natura (2000) is part of the European network, whose objective is to prevent the biologic diversity on the territory of the European Union. 4 to 5 hours are necessary to make this distance of 12 km.
The path is divided into 3 parts:

Boucle A: The human and the forest - 5 km


Starting point: reception center Ellergonn


The human and the forest goes mostly through the forest, recognizable/tagged by footprints.
Tourist feature:


- lake
- panoramic sight to Ellergronn
- playing place Bësch-Crèche

 

"G. Gaalgebierg’’


1 hour- 4km


Starting point: Eisekaul, where iron was once extracted from an opencast mine


Places of interest:

- Gaalgebierg animal park

- International Sculpture Symposium

- Bird sanctuary

 – public gardens

- 1995 International Sculpture Symposium

 

"B. Bourgronn"


¾  hour – 3km


Starting point: Eisekaul, where iron was once extracted from an opencast mine


Places of interest:

- bird sanctuary
- the entrance to the former Minière Haedefeldchen mine
- public gardens raised on the Gléicht

Highlight: the Haedefeldgen mine 

 

"H. Haedefeldchen"


1  ½  hour – 6 km


Starting point: Eisekaul, where iron ore was once extracted from an opencast mine

Place of interest:

- Holzebier, vantage point

- Beiseng, panoramic view
- The old Kayler Poteau tramway

- the open air school
Highlight: - the open-air school


"R. Réimerwee"
1 hour – 4km
Starting point: Eisekaul, where iron ore was once extracted from an opencast mine
Places of interest: - Holzebierg, vantage point  the old cable railway
                             - the former carriageway
                             - target practice ground for amateurs – the open-air school
Highlight: the old cable railway which was used between 1906 and 1979 for carrying iron ore from Ottange (France) to Differdange (Luxembourg); approximately 13 km long.

"S. Schlassboesch"


1 ½ hour – 5,5 km


Starting point: Eisenkaul, where iron ore was once extracted from an opencast mine

Places of interest:

- The former Cockerill mine

– Ellergronn nature reserve 

- Rosati House

– The old cable railway 
 - the former carriageway
- target practice ground for amateurs
Highlight: the nature reserve and its special feature, the Liègeoisweiher

PW. ‘’ The Pierrre WIES Footpath
2 hours – 8,5 km
Starting point: Gaalgebierg Esch
Places of interest: - the former launder and bunker – The former Kazebierg mine
Nature reserve, close to the French border – Rosati House
Holzebierg, panoramic view – the open-air school.


History: the open-air school was founded in 1928 as part of an initiative set up to offer weak and poorly children the possibility of pursuing their studies in a healthy environment;
Nowadays, school children visit this school to study life sciences first hand.
